Women’s Health Course
This course emphasises the Osteopathic Approach to Women’s Health, with particular emphasis on the main causes of pelvic congestion, and the diagnosis and treatment of pelvic conditions. Pelvic congestion, is in most cases the main reason for the development of female problems, such as pelvic inflammatory disease, dysmenorrhoea, premenstrual tension, menorrhagia, dyspareunia, etc. Practical sessions will cover the different osteopathic approaches on how to approach and treat these conditions.
Endocrine/psyche influences affect women in a very strong way and express in gynaecological problems – these problems are not always surgical: “Today over 85% of gynaecological problems require thoughtful analysis and critical assessment by the physician, and only 15% require surgical intervention. All too often the doctrine of ‘if in doubt cut it out’ prevails, and the amount of unnecessary and often harmful, gynaecological surgery performed in all countries, and under a variety of medical philosophies, is distressing to observe”. Dr Derek Llewellyn Jones, OBE, MD, MAO, FRCOG, ‘Fundamentals of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Vol 2”
In this course, we will emphasise how important it is to understand the female reproductive process, the homoeostatic mechanisms of the neuro-endocrine system and how this relates to the social and psychosocial behaviour of the female patient; the limbic system will be covered in terms of the allostatic load and how it effects women’s health.
